Start Playing Hockey
The options for your new hockey player vary based on skating proficiency and the time of year. This guide will help you get started.
I have a child under 4-years-old
We recommend children of this age sign up for skating lessons at the St. Peters RecPlex. While we don't have rules preventing you from signing up for our Introduction to Hockey Program, kids of this age are often times not mature enough to jump into hockey.
I have a child between 4 and 8 years old
... who cannot ice skate.
Our hockey programs are built to handle kids of all skill levels, but if your child has only been on the ice a couple times and can't get around the rink comfortably, we recommend skating lessons through the RecPlex.
... who is a weak skater.
These are players who get around a little bit but certainly still fall down quite a bit. We recommend that these players sign up for The Little Blues Learn to Play Program through the St. Louis Blues. They have programs that run throughout the year.
... who skates okay or better.
These are kids who have probably done a session or two of Learn-to-Play and are ready to take the next step. If the fall season is coming up, you should sign him or her up for our 6U or 8U programs (depending on age). They would also fit in just fine in any of our Spring or Summer offerings.

These are players who get around a little bit but certainly still fall down quite a bit. We recommend that these players sign up for our Into to Hockey programs. In this program, however, your son or daughter will be one of the older ones on the ice. If you think that will be an issue with him or her, the RecPlex offers hockey classes as well that may have more kids his or her age.
